Local Exhaust Ventilation

Statutory Examination & Testing and System Design

Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) is a type of engineering control designed to reduce exposure to hazardous substances in the workplace. Regulation 9 of the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) regulations requires that all engineering controls provided by an employer be maintained in an efficient state, be in efficient working order and in good repair.  It further states that employers must ensure that thorough examination and testing of these controls is carried out at regular intervals (usually at least every 14 months) and suitable records kept. Oak Environmental Solutions Limited can assist companies comply with legislative requirements by providing the following services:

  • Examination & testing of LEV in accordance with the latest Health and Safety Executive Guidance - HSG 258.
  • Provision of interpretative reports, including schematic diagrams and recommendations for remedial action and maintenance
  • Verification of control by air monitoring using personal and static sampling techniques
  • Advice on LEV system design and suggested modifications to improve the control of airborne contaminants
  • LEV awareness training.
